Deaf Earthquake/Tsunami Relief

Hori just skyped me. He and Matsumoto are doing relief work in Miyako with the Jordans.  (Jordans are missionaries who have been involved with Deaf ministry and a critical part of ViBi’s beginning.)  Jordans had met some Deaf people on a previous earthquake/tsunami relief trip, and invited Hori and Matsumoto to join them this time.  Hori writes: “We were able to meet with 3 Deaf people at Miyako Community Church. A church member who is also a certified JSL interpreter invited them. We used the Japanese Sign Language Bible translation for a Bible study on Matthew 13:1-23. Pastor Matsumoto taught and shared the gospel with them.”

Thank God for this wonderful opportunity to connect. Pray that the Word of God will take root in their hearts and that they will come to faith in Christ. Pray for Matsumoto and Hori as they will be there Sunday and Monday as well.

One Response to Deaf Earthquake/Tsunami Relief

  1. Jim Owens says:

    Dear Mark and Mary Esther,

Wow! What a challenging year you folks have had so far. Tomorrow morning I will lead my first Missions Committee meeting at Pioneer Bible Church in Somerset, Ca. as a a few months back I volunteered to lead our group. Joanne Wilson retired from the missions committee but not from missions. As a matter of fact she and Chuck are soon heading to Camp Bighorn, Montana to visit and work with James and Mary Russell and the camp ministry there. We met a while back when you spoke at our church, but don’t feel bad if you don’t remember me. I just want you to know we will continue to pray for the work that God has given you both (ViBI and Wheelchairs of Hope). I know it will take years for Japan to recover from these triple catastrophies of earhquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Reactor problems. I also know that His Strength is perfected in our weakness and that God uses these situations to draw us to Himself. We will try to help you out as God provides.
Thank you for your service Pray for us as we pray for you!

    Your Brother in Christ,

    Jim Owens
